Linda Stiles Smith

Linda Stiles Smith

Linda pulls from her education as a landscape painter to create jewelry designs that speak to the universal need of a connection with nature. Working with metal clay, Linda hand sculpts tree and leaf forms into pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings. Using a brush and syringe to build upon the clay base, she applies the details that create one of a kind wearable art, sometimes painting the silver directly onto a leaf or pod. Often embellished with hand-set lab-grown gemstones that are then fired in place, she works each piece from start to finish in her home-based studio in Dayton, Ohio. Linda frequently incorporates text stamped into the backs and niches of her silver pieces that ultimately impart a personal meaning for each individual.

Working in an adjacent space with a single torch, husband Dale creates lampworked beads that echo the swirls and undulating patterns of nature found in Linda’s silverwork. Combining silver and glass parts, with the simple additions of quality Czech glass beads and sterling silver findings, Linda designs beautiful and enduring pieces of personal adornment.

Linda developed a ring technique that was published in Art Jewelry Magazine. She was certified in 2005 as an Art Clay Senior Instructor by Art Clay World, USA. Dale has been lampworking since 1999. Teaching in both their studio and art centers has provided a way to share their skill and vision with a growing number of students.

The artwork of naturescapes studio is available at retail art shows and festivals as well as through their website.
